Clutter Has a Personality

The aim is not to strip the home of character. Character is not clutter. A stack of favourite books beside a chair may be charming because it belongs to the life of that chair. A bowl of lemons in the kitchen, a vase of flowers on the table, a folded blanket on the sofa, a tray with evening essentials, these things can add warmth and rhythm. Clutter is different. It interrupts the room’s purpose. It arrives without intention and stays without permission.
